Earth Day

So earth day has come and gone just like every year with a little said or done most years. However this year was defiantly a different time, this year earth day seemed to go with the go green movement that the United States is moving to promote. everything seemed to hope on the earth day and go green band wagon with giving out reusable bags at stores to some of the major internet search engines putting up different logos for the day.

Most of the food markets were giving out a free re-usable bag with the visit, people were giving out energy saving light bulbs. All sorts of commercials were playing with go green tips and the news stations had specials on families going green in many different ways. I decided to look on the web to see what was being done. I found that google, yahoo, and aol had new logos for the day. Here they are below.

They all looked cool especially with yahoo and aol having animation in them which made them move.

Schools did their part too; I know that my college campus started a recycle program for bottles and paper. The high school I work at cleaned up the campus and around the campus. It was interesting to see how a day that most people normally don’t care about has changed with the whole go green and people are starting to make a difference but is it the only time people will care or will what happened this keep going and become better every year. I guess only time will tell......

great weekend

Saturday I had good and fun day something I haven't had in some time. The original plan was to go to a gem fair with my friend Alix for her class. The one problem over the week before was if I could get there or not because we were down to one car with the Van in the shop. So a few days before a new plan was created to go to her house Friday with her dad spend the night and then go hiking that day and then to the gem show. Well the Van was working so we didn't have to worry about that however having no plans at all Saturday and being bored at home I decided to go on the hike anyways so not wanting to get up early I drove out their Friday night.

Saturday work up early cause we had to meet the group at 7am for this hike. We drove to the trailhead and off we went. The day was nice and overcast with some light rain so we didn't have to worry about the heat. About 7 miles and 4 hours later we were back at the cars and the hike was over. You might ask why so long well it was with a troop with some young scouts. Alix went cause she’s preparing to go to Philmont this summer.

Going back to Alix's house to clean up and get ready for the show we decided to go over to our friends Eva's house because we wanted Ihope. So for a late lunch (2:30) we all got one dish and did like a family share thing and had a little of everything. We were trying to convince Eva to come with use cause we were going to go to a comedy club after the gem show since we are out their. But her mom would not let her go with us so after drooping her off at home off to the gem show but realizing that it closed at 5 and it was 4pm with a good 45 min drive their.

Getting there with a few minutes to spare Alix went in to get the paperwork she needed to prove she went. After that we parked the car at a park and went walking down main street walking in to a thrift store looking at all the cool things Alix found me a cowboy shirt that I decided to buy for cowboy day at camp. We kept walking finding numerous thrift stores (that were closed) and antique store it was a great time walking around talking and looking in all the stores that were open including the ice cream.

So we decided to go back to the car and find a close parking spot. Getting back to the car Alix turned to me asking if I left the lights on in the car which I did so we had to get the car jumped. As I started to call AAA a park guy came by and was able to jump our car and off to driving around to charge the battery. We decided that instead of waiting another hour for the show we went back to T.O. to see a movie but after not being able to find a showing that would fit our time we went to blockbuster and rented some movies. Eventually all good times come to on end and after on early day home I went to sleep and start a whole new day.

51 Students

So last weekend was Presidents Day Weekend and we had a holiday (i.e. no school Monday). Because of that one of the teachers at work decided to work on planning a trip to a LAUSD Camp called Clear Creak. Once all the paper work was done we were approved and we had a spot at Clear Creak, and a trip for the high school students for the weekend. For this trip we left Friday and got back Sunday so their goes most of the weekend, and then taking 51 students. You must be thinking wow how crazy we were for giving up a weekend, well so u know it was also 3 teachers and myself a teacher aid what a crazy staff we have for this school.

So for the weekend we went on a long and nice hike which I think over all the students enjoyed. We did some arts and crafts project, and some survival stuff. Along with that we saw the animals around the area, and Saturdays night they had what was called teacher time where we split up into two groups and played some mental and physical games like 4 is the magic number and blob. Some things the students complained about was the food being almost the same at school and small sizes oh and the 3 min show they got to take Saturday. After this weekend I was thinking about what I do over the summer and say that most of this students could not do what we do for the summer being in the mountains with no electronics, showers and late hours with the same food every week.

Over all the students did have fun even with few problems, the teachers had fun but also a tiering time. Still think we are crazy???

power

So this morning I was woken up really early at about 5 am or around there. I come to find that there was no power in half of the house when I was woken up and my dad was looking for a flashlight. I find it funny but bad all at the same time because the upstairs half of the house has no power and the downstairs half of the house had normal power. With the lack of power the first thought was we tripped a breaker outside. However, with a look at the box we come to find that all the breakers are fine nothing was tripped so next comes the reason why there is no power. Still after much testing and looking around we have not been able to find the reason for the power not working. So at this point their is no power upstairs and we now have to find on electrician to try and figure out why we don't have power to half the house.

With the lack of power more problems have come up. The first this is that all the bedrooms are upstairs and their are fewer windows up their so very little light from outside. The next this is that we don't have heat and in my room I have lizards that need the room to stay warm so now were trying to keep my room warm for the lizards. Another problem that came up is that all the computers, cable modem, and router are upstairs so our network doesn't work. Well i was able to fix part of that problem with a power cord from downstairs to upstairs that only has the cords for the modem and router so that we can at least use the internet with our laptops downstairs. Even right now I'm writing this in my room using the battery that will die soon :(

Wow this has been a long day and I have no idea when the power will be restored to the upstairs half of the house.
